San Dimas track and field has always done fairly well and has been a sport that our school has been proud of.

While the girl’s teams may have had more of a solid season than the boys, this year’s throwers have had a great season having breaken a school record and adding some new people to the team who have shown great skill and even greater potential.

Senior Angel Gonzalez shattered the previous record of 131 feet 11 and a half inches in the discus throw with a new record of 135 feet and 5 inches. Junior William Anguiano and  Junior Lucas Darling, two new additions to the team, have proven to be great assets in their first year. On the girls’ team seniors Katrina Sandifer, Erica Lawson and junior Jade Crockham have had a great season.

Throwing coach Nikki Bonomo said, “Will Anguinao and Lucas Darling did great especially for their first year throwing.”

Throwing in track is more than just winning; it is about creating bonds with others and learning about your inner strengths.

Junior Jared Copeland said“ Being a thrower is really fun, you get to meet a lot of cool people and get to know them throughout the season and you come out with some really cool friends.

Despite the tough competition the boys have seen  this season as a chance to grow and improve instead of as complete loss.

“The team has grown a lot and everyone has really improved, we have grown a lot as a team and next year we should really make a comeback” said junior William Anguiano.

Next year the varsity boys’ track team will have two promising new additions coming up for varsity with Austin Hilpert and Joseph Gebreseslassie.

The girls’ track team had a solid season with a record of 6-2. The girls’ throwing team also had a solid season  led by throwers such as Jade Crockham, Katrina Sandifer, and Erica Lawson.

Junior Jenna Bijl-Coyne said, “We had a good season. The team performed well and it showed in our record, and next year we should be even better.”
